The Historical Society of Palm Beach County presents a special exhibition, “By Land and Sea: Florida in the Civil War,” at the Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum in the historic 1916 Court House from September 8, 2015, to July 2, 2016. The free Museum, at 300 North Dixie Highway, is open Mondays, 10 am - 2 pm; Tuesdays to Fridays, 10 am - 5 pm; and Saturdays, 10 am - 4 pm. Visitors to the exhibition will be immersed in the history of Florida from 1861 to 1877, the period during the Civil War and the years immediately following known as Reconstruction. The exhibit tells how Floridians joined the fight, including Confederates, Unionists, and former slaves who escaped bondage with the help of the Union. It focuses on how Florida contributed to the Confederacy and the high costs of war and freedom. For further information, call 561.832.4164 ext. 101 or visit www.historicalsocietypbc.org
